Program Description

Discover the most scenic highlights of the western part of Madeira on this unforgettable tour, that combines dramatic cliffs, wild nature and unique landscapes that will stay with you long after the trip ends.

You’ll depart in the morning towards the impressive Cabo Girão – one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe, offering breathtaking views over the Atlantic Ocean. Next, you’ll visit a local banana plantation, where you’ll learn about cultivation methods and explore the island’s innovative banana museum. There will also be a chance to taste a local speciality – banana beer. The journey continues across the remarkable Paul da Serra plateau, often referred to as the “Madeiran tundra”. This vast, open landscape contrasts with the rest of the island. Nearby, you’ll discover the mystical Fanal Forest, known for its misty atmosphere and ancient laurel trees, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Along the way, you’ll stop at the Ribeira da Janela viewpoint, where you can admire Madeira’s rugged, cliff-lined coastline. Later, you’ll reach the popular resort of Porto Moniz, famous for its natural lava pools formed by volcanic rock.

The tour then continues to São Vicente, where you’ll enjoy lunch. At the end of the day, you’ll visit the charming village of Ribeira Brava, a traditional fishing town with a historic church in its centre.

The order of the itinerary and programme may be subject to change.

The tour can also be organised in a small group (up to 8 people) upon request, offering a more intimate experience.

The tour was a disaster. The guide was unwilling or interested in providing information about Madeira. She was reluctant to answer questions, only interested in finishing the tour as quickly...

A well-chosen route and tour program. Alex, the guide, was polite and knowledgeable, and he was able to impart it. The organization was impeccable – and the weather was perfect.
